How To Play Craps Introduction

Are you ready? Here we go:

When you arrive at the craps table, you will need some betting chips. No, you don’t have to have them, but chips are easier to handle and count than cash. Just place your cash on the table and say change. A dealer (the person on either side of the boxman sitting in the middle of the table) will take your cash and exchange it for chips.

Now place the chips in the tray in front of you. Forget about all the bets you see on the table layout and concentrate on just two bets -- either the Pass Line bet or the Don’t Pass bet. Although most players choose to bet the Pass line, the Don’t Pass has a slightly better chance of winning.

You do not have to roll the dice in order to bet, but you must bet in order to roll the dice. For our game, you will roll the dice and bet on the Pass Line.

Your first roll is called a come out roll. If you roll either a 7 or 11, you will immediately win $1 profit for every dollar you bet. If you roll a 2, 3 or 12, you will lose. Rolling any of those five numbers gives you another turn to roll the dice, or another come out roll.

More times than not, you will roll either the 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10. When you roll any of these numbers on a come out roll, this is called your point number. In order to win, you must roll your point number again, before you roll a seven. As long as you continue to do so, you get to roll the dice. Each time you make your point number, you will win $1 profit for every dollar you bet.

Once you roll a point number and then roll a 7 before you repeat that point number, you lose, and your turn ends.

Now, you roll the dice and you get a 7. That’s a win for you and $1 profit. Next you roll an 8, which is your point number. You continue to roll the dice until you roll that 8 again or roll a 7. Your next six rolls are 5, 3, 9, 6, 2, 11 and 8. You win again. That’s another $1 profit for you.

Your next rolls are as follows: 9, 8, 8, 5, 6, 12, 10, 4, 11 and 7. Since you rolled 7 before rolling 9 again, that’s a loss and you lose your $1 bet. This ends your turn. You still get to continue betting on the other players that roll the dice, but you will not be able to roll the dice until your turn comes around again. For this round you won $2 profit and lost $1, so you are ahead by $1.

Yes, there are more advanced ways to play, but this is the basic truth on how to play craps. Follow the virtual example above, practice it as much as possible and you can walk up to any craps table with confidence. You will definitely know how to play craps.
